PSST! Spoiler Alert!

Reading through the latest issue of The Canadian Quilter newsletter, it’s clear that the generosity of Canadian quilters knows no bounds: the many quilts donated to worthy causes, the funds raised through raffle quilts and the simply amazing number of quilted leaf bowls made for Quilt Ontario are evidence that our quilting community is strong and ever ready to share.

Right on the heels of their success in making leaf bowls, our fellow quilters are already asking us what they can make for Quilt Canada 2012 . Stay tuned – we have a great idea and we’ll share that with your Guild in time for your first meeting in the fall. If you don’t belong to a Guild, all the information you’ll need will be posted on the blog in September. What is it?  Well, we’re not ready to say just yet, but what we can tell you is that it’s just a little bit fishy…

We’re also introducing a new way to build on the natural connection that Canadian quilters share from coast to coast to coast. This is a big country and not easy for quilters in one region to connect with quilters in another region. Quilt Canada is a rare chance for quilters to make that connection to share experiences and discover what they have in common.

In September , we will be asking quilters across the country to share something else – a Fat Quarter from their fabric stash! Quilters will be asked to choose a favourite Fat Quarter, label it with their contact information, and send it along to Halifax. Details will be sent to your Quilt Guild. The Fat Quarters will be a small gift for delegates, who will be asked to make something interesting with their new ‘treasure’. They will also be asked to contact the donor to let them know what they made – maybe even share a photo of the finished project! Who knows, you just might connect with a new quilting friend!

I have my fat quarter all ready to go! I can’t wait to find out who receives my contribution and what they make with it. We know you’ll enjoy sorting through your own stash to find that special Fat Quarter to share with another quilter!
