Halifax in 2012 – it will “seam like home”!

Scenic and charming Halifax, gateway to Atlantic Canada – there couldn’t be a better spot for Quilt Canada 2012!  We can’t wait to have you visit our great city and personally experience our Maritime hospitality.

Halifax is a modern seaport bustling with festivals, shopping, local business and great entertainment! However, our claim to fame is our rich seafaring history. Citadel Hill dominates the skyline, with harbour ships and ferries, waterfront boardwalks, and colourful century architecture on narrow, hilly streets all giving you just a taste of our maritime heritage.

Nova Scotia is a small province but there is a lot to see and do. A short distance away is the South Shore, home to world famous Peggy’s Cove and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lunenburg. The Eastern Shore boasts a rugged coastline and the surfer’s paradise of Lawrencetown Beach. The Annapolis Valley boasts orchards and wineries and showcases our Acadian roots. And Cape Breton Island has scenery you simply won’t see anywhere else. Everywhere you go, you’ll experience the small town charm of Nova Scotian communities.

Start Planning!

Follow the posted links to Nova Scotia’s Doers and Dreamers Guide, produced by the Nova Scotia Government. This is one of the best FREE travel planners in the country – this great little book will guide you through your visit to our province, whether you just spend time in the city, or take time to explore farther afield. Check out the Destination Halifax link to find the many things to do and see in the City of Halifax – you might want to add a day or two to your travel plans to take it all in as we’re sure to keep you busy during Quilt Canada.

We Heard You!

Many thanks to those Guilds who have offered their ideas for next year’s event. Quilters are almost unanimous in their call for a good line up of workshops, a great Merchant Mall, and keeping the costs reasonable.

Like any good host, we’re busy planning to make sure that you have a good time while you are here! And just as you’ve requested, Quilt Canada will feature:

  • more than 110 workshops with 30 instructors, including 5 international teachers – check out the links in the sidebar
  • more than 80 vendors in the Merchant Mall – lots of shopping!
  • on-site low-cost accommodations at Dalhousie University

Look for details in the registration package later this year and on the CQA/ACC web site. Subscribe to this blog or look for us on Facebook so you are one of the first to get the inside scoop!

Till next time.
